The DAZZ Story: Gratitude at Every Step

The DAZZ Story: Gratitude at Every Step

David Shahan began developing DAZZ in 2012 and hasn’t stopped working since then. The process of building a successful cleaning product company has given him a lot to be grateful for, with plenty of lessons, challenges, and celebrations along the way. This was all built off the strong foundation David had even before the conception of DAZZ, from his greatest passions to his earliest influences.

With Thanksgiving coming up this week, we wanted to take a moment to chat with our Founder and CEO about what he’s grateful for and what motivates him both professionally and personally.

Can you talk a little bit about your motivations behind creating DAZZ? Why did you decide to start this business?

David: I have such a deep appreciation and respect for nature that I knew I wanted to create a product and business that could have a positive impact on our world, particularly with the problem of plastic waste. I also knew that most consumers shop with their wallets, not their conscience, so I knew it had to be a creative innovation that could also save money. DAZZ is one of those unique products that checks off both boxes.

What are some of the influences that led you to where you are today?

David: Growing up, I was influenced by both my parents. From early grade school until after college, I watched my mother build a successful business in the direct selling industry. She built an amazing sales force of several hundred saleswomen on a foundation of ethical business practices and a consumer-focused mission. My father was an early pioneer in computer programing and taught me how to systematically approach a problem, create a unique solution, and turn it into an opportunity. I’m grateful to have had these two different influences throughout my formative years.

What drives you in your personal life? Who/what are you thankful for outside of the business?

David: The greatest motivation I have in my life is my family. My choices in careers and business have all been designed to support the dreams I have for my wife, daughter, and son. I’m thankful for the opportunities we’ve had to travel and spend quality time together, enjoying nature. From hiking in the mountains to playing in the ocean, I’m proud that my wife and kids share my passion for the unspoiled treasures of our world. Creating an impact product like DAZZ is my way of contributing to a brighter future for my kids and their kids.

What lesson have you been most grateful to learn throughout this journey?

David: Patience continues to be the toughest and most rewarding lessons I’ve learned along this journey. Impactful change takes time. There have been countless roadblocks and obstacles along the way and I’m grateful to have had just enough stubbornness and blissful ignorance to stay the course.

If you could give one message to the DAZZ community, what would it be?

David: I’m thankful for all of our customers. Without you and your support, DAZZ would be just one more good idea that came and went. Thanks to you, we’ve kept hundreds of thousands of plastic bottles from heading to landfills and made a measurable impact on the carbon footprint typically associated with heavy, ready-to-use cleaners. Thank you for supporting our company and our mission.
